Change of Study and/or School

If you have or intend to change your original study and/or transfer to another school that is different to what is stated in your “besluit”, you are required to first obtain the approval of the Government of St. Maarten.

Before making any final decisions S4 advices you to:

• Speak to your S4 mentor, school mentor and “studieloopbaanbegeleider” concerning your intentions.
• Collect information on the studies that interest you and the schools that facilitate these studies.
• Visit open- and “meeloopdagen”. Both are free of charge and very helpful in making a wise decision.
• Check the schools out that also accept students in February, which means you might not have to wait until August to change.
• Keep in mind that rental agreements usually are for one year, this makes moving to another city not (yet) possible.
• After considering the abovementioned and before registering at a new school you must first request the approval of the Government by submitting a request for change of study to the office of S4. We in turn communicate this request to the Ministry of Education of St. Maarten.

In order to inform the Ministry of Education of St. Maarten of your change and for the change to be accepted you must submit the following documents:

1. A filled in “Information/Request form” on our website.
2. A signed motivation letter stating the reason(s) why you’ve changed your study and/or school. In this motivation letter you must also request the approval of the Ministry of Education of St. Maarten to this change.
3. The new study should be on the priority list of Government.

Do keep in mind that St. Maarten works with a priority list, this is a list of occupations that are needed and preferred on the island. Studies/occupations that are not on the list may be denied!

Graduated– New/Second Diploma

Are you a recent graduate who intends to continue towards a second degree? If you want to continue to receive financial aid from the Government of St. Maarten, you must apply for an extension of your study financing. You are required to provide us with:

• A signed motivation letter informing us that you have obtained your degree and the reasons why you are requesting an extension of your study financing.
• A copy of your diploma, recent grades as well as copies of all relevant correspondence with the new school/program.
