"Vacation money" is a grant given by the Government of St. Maarten to students of S4 in the spirit of preserving contact with home. It is based on very good scholastic performance and is intended solely to assist the student in purchasing a vacation ticket to St. Maarten and is only granted once in the student’s entire study career. Below are the requirements for the €500 grant towards a vacation ticket:

• Student must have lived in the Netherlands for a minimum of two years concurrently
• Student must be able to display good study results from the previous 2 school years and must be in the 3rd year of the same study
• Student must have received a propedeuse diploma within 1 year and the minimum of 120 ECTS points within 24 months (Not applicable to MBO students)
• Student cannot have any debt at S4 (loan or outstanding rent)
• A copy of the itinerary showing flight details

The official request form must be filled in and sent in with proof of registration and a grade list from the previous 2 school years, showing a minimum of ECTS points. For MBO students that they have been successfully promoted for the minimum of 2 years consecutively.

Students who have changed studies within their first 2 years are not eligible for vacation money. If you have met the above-mentioned requirements then you are eligible for this grant. Please remember that vacation money is a gift, not a loan, and so importance is placed on how successful you have been as a student during the last 2 years that you have been in the Netherlands.

Students do not automatically receive this allowance after their first 2 years or later.

Deadlines:

• For Summer Vacation: official request should be sent in with all appropriate documents by April 30th
• For Christmas Vacation: official request should be sent in with all appropriate documents by Sep 30th
