Students under DUO (18 years and older) may apply for an ‘OV-student subscription’. With this ‘OV-student subscription’ you can travel free of charge or discounted by the public transportation.
HBO/WO students can start using their ‘OV-student subscription’ on September 1st because they are entitled to study financing as of this date. It is advisable to buy a 1-month public transportation subscription (OV-maandabonnement) for the first month in Holland. This subscription costs between € 75,-/ € 100,- depending on how far or in which you are travelling.
To be able to travel for free you will have to order an OV-chip card at www.ov-chipkaart.nl and follow the procedures stated. Your OV-chip card will be sent by mail to your given address. After receiving your OV-chip card you can load your OV-student subscription up at specific points throughout Holland. These points are called “ophaalautomaat” and you can find the nearest at your current location by checking on www.ov-chipkaart.nl/adresvinder. The activation of your OV-student subscription will be on the commencing date of your DUO study financing.

Call the Klantenservice (Customer service) OV-chipkaart: 0900 - 09 80 (€ 0,10 p/m) as soon as possible. They will block your stolen OV-Chip card at once. The customer service agent will inform further matters to be taken so you may get a new OV-Chip card as soon as possible.
