If you have a driver’s license issued on St. Maarten or the BES islands, it can be exchanged for a Dutch one. This is possible if you have had your license in St. Maarten or the BES islands for at least a half year. You can change your license at the municipality. Make sure your driver’s license is still valid. Your driver’s license will only be valid for six months after registration as a resident. After this period it is no longer possible to exchange your driver’s license for a Dutch one. Check out www.rijbewijs.nl for more information. There are costs involved with converting your driver’s license into a Dutch driver’s license. Check with your local municipality for the costs.
